Water Made in Luxembourg
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/nbc/kaercher/press6.html
The Luxembourg Army is pursuing new, modern paths in the area of drinking water treatment. Since October, the soldiers of the Grand Duchy have been purifying their water using the Karcher Futuretech Waterclean WTC 1600 GT before filling it into bags by means of the WPS 1600 GT water packaging system.
Up to 1,600 litres of drinking water can be filled into individual bags in an hour. In the field, the soldier can choose his preferred size of bag, from 0.25 litre or 0.5 litre to 1 litre. The so-called chain bags can be carried by the soldiers directly on their person.
Working together, the systems for drinking water purification and packaging represent a compact and economically efficient solution for operation in the field, starting at the water source and ending with the satisfaction of thirst. With a contract volume of more than 1.7 million Euros for three complete systems, the Luxembourg need of mobile drinking water supply has been met for the time being.

Holdfast Systems
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/mines/holdfast-systems
Holdfast Systems utilise five years of development and research in Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) equipment to produce ballistic protection solutions.
BLAST-PROTECTIVE BODY ARMOUR
We work with the officers and operators at the front line of EOD and IEDD, and convert this valuable experience into practical body armour solutions that are reliable and feasible, to meet the high expectations of our end users.
EXPLOSIVE ORDINANCE DISPOSAL SUIT
Holdfast Systems have become part of a joint venture hosted by Swiss Protection Systems to develop the latest in EOD and IEDD suit technology, the culmination of which is the SPS-3 EOD suit. This is being marketed and demonstrated to EOD teams and bomb disposal squads all over the world.
The SPS-3 suit makes use of light high-performance materials, which give the user a level of comfort previously unknown in this field, as well as improved flexibility within the ensemble.
A further development for this EOD system is a re-engineered helmet with a modified Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) accommodation system.
DE-MINING PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Over the past seven years, we have worked in conjunction with several humanitarian de-mining projects (including the UN's), to develop protective equipment for their de-mining operators. This equipment must be lightweight and rugged whilst offering enough protection to save an operator from the detonation of an Anti-Personal (AP) mine.
All of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) developed by Holdfast has been thoroughly evaluated for its performance in accordance with current regulations.
BOMB SUPRESSION BLANKETS
With the ever-increasing threat of terrorist attacks, far more consideration has to be taken over what can be done when a potential explosive device is discovered and authorities are still en route. We have developed the Bomb Suppression Blanket (BSB), a first-response solution, to meet this requirement.
This system makes use of a safety circle around the identified object which is covered by the BSB, dramatically reducing the device's blast radius. It is not designed to contain the blast but merely to redirect its impetus and drastically reduce its impact ability. This comprises a cost-effective solution enabling various public facilities to save lives and limit the potential damage of a bomb attack.
SEARCH SUITS
Holdfast Systems have also developed a robust search suit. This protective suit offers a high level of blast and fragmentation protection, which still allows for maximum movement and extended time of operation. Our latest incorporation is to include the maximum level of NBC protection within the search suit. This means that a fully sealed suit with independent filtered or compressed air supply is worn in conjunction with a modified search suit.
We take great care and pride in the products we develop. Our rigorous tests and research ensures that effective, affordable protection reaches those whom need it most.
FRAGMENTATION SIMULATION FACILITY
Another advantage of Holdfast Systems' design approach is that we implement our own extensive testing. This includes our own ballistics range with an accurate fragmentation simulation facility. Our range is recognised worldwide as a facility where ballistics can be measured with precision.
EXPLOSIVE / BLAST TESTING
Fragmentation protection is only part of a successful formula for saving lives, so we also run an extensive blast-testing programme. This program utilises a highly sophisticated purpose-built blast test mannequin, which allows us to measure the effects of an explosion on a person wearing our equipment.
The dummy is designed to resemble human proportions and reactions as accurately as possible. It is by utilising this combined research and technology that we achieve the means to create the quality blast-protectiion products included in our range today. Our customers can be assured that we have tried, tested, evaluated, improved and approved each system.

Global security expert Allen-Vanguard has launched three new decontamination systems for use in a wide range of situations from large-scale incidents to emergency spot decontamination of chemical, biological and radioactive hazards, and in response to accidents involving general toxic substances.
The dual tank integrated system on trailer is a modular, heavy duty mobile CBRN decontamination system developed for the large scale decontamination of vehicles, buildings, equipment and terrain.
Simple to operate and maintain, it is self contained and carries on-board chemicals, mixing, hoses and nozzles. Using Allen-Vanguard's Surface Decontamination Foam (SDF), it can be set up and operational within 10 minutes of arrival by a single operator and is capable of pre-wash, decon and post-rinse operations.
"This new system can decontaminate approximately 500 square metres per hour, yet it is simple to use and easy to manoeuvre," explains Rob Wenham, CBRN product specialist at Allen-Vanguard. “It is ideal for continuous use in emergency chemical or biological threat situations."
Easy access up and down stairs and through doorways was an important factor in the design of the Dual Tank Trike, a self-contained unit for emergency decontamination of larger surface areas on hardware or buildings. The Dual Tank Trike is rugged, portable and simple to operate by a single person, and has a decontamination capability of 113 square metres per dose of SDF™.
"The Dual Tank Trike has a special aerating nozzle which produces a sticky and long lasting foam which adheres well to walls and ceilings," adds Rob. "The foam is thick and consistent enough to prevent any vapour or dust escaping from the chemical or biological agents while the decontaminant eliminates the threat."
For emergency spot decontamination, Allen-Vanguard has introduced its latest portable backpack system. The Dual Tank Backpack is capable of carrying a larger volume of liquid than its predecessor, the Concealed Backpack, and now features an optional fan spray nozzle for more rapid area coverage.
"Not only has this backpack been tested and proved rugged and simple to operate, but it can be successfully recharged and reused for multiple applications," explains Rob.
All three new products utilise Allen-Vanguard's SDF™ decontaminant foam, which was designed for safe use on all types of material surfaces and rapidly neutralises all known military chemical and biological warfare agents. The revolutionary design of the dual tanks and the use of pre-measured chemical payloads now extends the pot life of the decontaminant up to 48 hours which is extremely useful for extended operations.

ILLUMINATED ARROW MARKER
Arrow markers provide directional signals for use in daylight and darkness. Equipped with TRASER®, they are fail-safe and have a useful life of 20 years or more. As such, they meet the criteria for reliable luminous markings in extreme situations, eg. escape ways in emergences, power failures, in shelters, cooling rooms or explosion-prone areas.
Military sign usage permits many operations under cover of darkness (routes, bridges, minefields). The distinct contour of the sign is well perceived in daylight.
VARIABLE BRIGHTNESS TORCH
Providing sufficient light to read maps, documents and instruments, The Variable Brightness Torch's illumination can be controlled by rotating the thumb wheel on the side of the assembly, this obscures the source when not in use. A visual range of 50m can be obtained when used remotely.
This torch can assist in the alignment of weapons by providing light to the scales of dial sights. When placed in front of a gun position, two units can mark an Arch of Fire. Used with heavy artillery, one unit can indicate weapon alignment. It can serve numerous other purposes, e.g. signalling, identification and location marking.
ILLUMINATED ESCAPE WAY MARKINGS
TRASER® self-activated gaseous tritium light sources (GTLS) offer an excellent way of illuminating such markings to facilitate escape in emergencies in the dark. Illuminated markings can be neutral or feature arrows, symbols, words or short text. A number of signs with standard markings are available, but ones that require special markings may be made to order.
The company will supply such markers in the form of insets, which are rugged and easily installed. They provide a luminous dot visible at distances up to 10m. Other neutral markers visible up to distances of 30m are available.
