Junghans Feinwerktechnik
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/ammunition/junghans
JUNGHANS Feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co. KG is one of the leading developers and manufactures of mechanical, optronic and electronic fuzes and safety and arming devices for the armed forces worldwide.

The traditional Black Forest-based clock company Junghans was founded in 1861 by Erhard Junghans. In the year 1905 the know-how of precision mechanics for clocks and watches was applied to develop and produce fuzes and fuze systems. The first mechanical time fuze came on the market. In the mid eighties, incorporating modern electronic technologies, another industrial branch of Junghans was established and referred to as "Feinwerktechnik".

AMMUNITION FUZES

A close cooperation with German and international customers forms the basis for development and production of customer-tailored products. The comprehensive fuze program covers a wide range of ammunition

Medium calibre ammunition: PD and PIBD with and without self-destruct mechanism for 20, 27, 30, 35 and 40 mm calibres Mortar fuzes: PD, time, multifunction Fuzes for Tank Gun ammunition: 120 mm PIBD, ABM Fuzes for rockets and missiles (e.g. MLRS weapon system): PD and time fuzes, e.g. Bomblet with SD Artillery fuzes: multifunction, time, PD Fuzes for AT weapon ammunition: time, PIBD (Panzerfaust) Safety and arming devices

DIGITAL FUZES

The Multi Option Fuzes for Artillery (MOFA) DM74 and DM84 as well as the Electronic Time Fuzes DM52A1 and DM52A2 represent the latest generation in fuze know-how. These fuzes have been designed to utilise the principle of digitisation, inductive programming by direct communication with automatic fire control loading systems of all modern howitzers.

Several hundreds of thousands of Junghans MOFA and electronic artillery fuzes have been delivered to the German Army and to other NATO-partners.

MOFA DM84

The DM84 is a flick-ramming safe multi option fuze for use with 39cal and 52cal weapons and has been developed for deployment with high explosive, cargo, smoke and illumination ammunition. In addition, this fuze is also qualified for 120mm rifled mortars.

The DM84 derives from the proven and successful DM74. The main reason for introducing the DM84 was to improve capability and usability. A new battery has been integrated which is activated at firing and is able to detect the different acceleration impulses between a 1.5m drop test and the acceleration forces during projectile firing.

Safety is guaranteed by the qualified SAU DM62 from the MOFA DM74, which is in service in Germany, Canada, Denmark and Norway.

Arming is initiated by translational and rotational forces after firing. The rotor moves in-line after the muzzle safety distance has elapsed.

The DM84 complies with MIL-STD1316D, MIL-STD 331B, STANAG 4369. The guaranteed shelf life is a minimum of 10 years.

Esterline Defense Group is the world leader in combustible ordnance product development and manufacture. Marketed under the Armtec® brand, our combat proven product line includes 120mm tank, 155mm artillery and combustible cartridge cases (CCCs) as well as mortar propellant containers. Esterline Defense Group's technology is in the forefront of process improvement, product innovation and new, non-traditional applications for combustible products. We have developed prototype 105mm products to support the US Army's Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) and Future Combat System (FCS), which are currently undergoing testing.

We are renowned for our customer service and reliable delivery of the highest quality products. These products have a demonstrated shelf life in excess of twenty years under proper storage conditions. Esterline Defense Group is ISO 9002 certified.

TRADITIONAL PRODUCT LINES

Esterline Defense Group is the US Government's preferred supplier for the following current Armtec® branded production items:

120mm tank CCCs used on tactical and training ammunition for the Abrams main battle tank 60mm, 81mm and 120mm mortar propellant containers 155mm CCCs for the Modular Artillery Charge System (MACS)

We also have the ability to manufacture artillery igniter tubes, CCCs for M203A1 artillery charges and ejection cartridge discs and components for CAD/PAD applications.

MODULAR ARTILLERY CHARGE SYSTEM (MACS)

MACS is comprised of two distinct combustible case increments used in multiples of 1 to 6 to provide the ranges presently covered by the M3A1, M4A2, M119A1/A2 bag, M203 bag charges, M203A1 rigid charge and other top zone extended range charges, all of which are replaced by MACS. MACS can be loaded manually or autoloaded for increased rates of fire. MACS is an additive system that offers greatly improved logistics, increased performance, simplified training and substantial cost savings for all 155mm applications.

TANK AMMUNITION

Esterline Defense Group manufactures CCCs for the full family of US 120mm smoothbore tank ammunition. Applications are also being developed for advanced tank rounds including the XM1028 Anti-personnel tactical canister round (APERS) and XM908 High Explosive Obstacle Reduction with Tracer (HE-OR-T) and Mid-Range Munitions (MRM).

MORTAR AMMUNITION

Combustible propellant containers (increments) for mortars offer several improvements over cloth or celluloid alternatives. Their rigid shape provides greater structural integrity that is especially important with larger caliber increments, such as 120mm, which carry a substantial propellant load. Nitrocellulose in the containers adds energy to the combustion cycle and promotes complete combustion leaving no in-bore residue.

Existing inventories of mortar ammunition with deteriorating propulsion systems can be retrofitted to use felted fiber containers and modern propellants. This is a less costly alternative than scrapping entire inventories of older ammunition and purchasing new ammunition.

105mm AMMUNITION

Esterline Defense Group has developed a CCC for 105mm ammunition used in rifled guns including the US Army SBCT Mobile Gun System (MGS). Preliminary physical testing has been completed verifying the robustness of the design and its ability to withstand an autoloader environment. Weight is a critical factor in the design of the MGS vehicle variant. The use of a combustible case in place of steel or brass alternatives offers a weight savings of up to 14% per round.

Esterline Defense Group has also developed a 105mm Cased Telescoped Ammunition (CTA) CCC solution for the 105mm Multi Role Armament and Ammunition System (MRAAS), a candidate armament system for use on the Future Combat System.

ORDNANCE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Esterline Defense Group is working with the US Army to develop consumable components for non-lethal mortar applications.

We have developed a combustible ignitor for the US Army's FCS Non-Line-of Sight Launch System (NLOS-LS) Precision Attack Missle's (PAM) Throttlable Rocket Engine.

Our experienced personnel and modern laboratory and pilot plant facilities support a wide range of development activities.

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

Esterline Defense Group has the ability to design combustible components to meet the unique requirements of propulsion systems used throughout the world. We have successfully transferred manufacturing technology to several countries requiring indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

Elmacom have recently launched the new products listed below.

HI POWER DIRECTIONAL RF SENSOR

A reflectometer is a device used to protect a PA from load mismatches. It delivers a voltage proportional to the mismatch value which is fed back to the input stage of the amplifier to gradually limit its power gain. The Model E10310-01-05 operates from 100MHz to 500MHz with a directivity of 25dB and a maximum insertion loss of 0.25dB. The power handled is 300W CW with a ripple of only ±0.3dB. The size is 88.7mm x 46mm x 30.7mm.

90° POWER DIVIDER / COMBINER

Designed for wideband high power application in the V-UHF range, the E10080-01-05 3dB, 90° Hybrid coupler is well suited for a variety of applications as power dividers and combiners, balanced amplifier circuits with low input and output VSWR, voltage variable PIN diode attenuators, antenna feed networks and phase shifters and comparators.

This design approach offers smaller size and provides better performance in covering wider bandwidths than other solutions. The device operates in the 100MHz to 500MHz frequency range with a power handling of 200W CW, 0.5dB insertion loss, amplitude unbalance of ±0.35db, phase unbalance of 90° (±3°) and 16dB isolation. The size is 90mm x 55mm x 18mm.

DRIVER MODULE

The Model E10420-01-05 is ideal for VHF-UHF radio and jamming applications. This PA operates in the 30MHz to 500MHz frequency range. The output power is 13W at 1dBc and 20W saturated. The gain is 30dB typical and it offers an AGC control range of 60dB. It is just 53.3mm x 25.4mm x 12.7mm in size and weighs 80g. Combined with an E10430-01-05 power module it delivers 80W saturated output power.

HPA MODULE

The Model E10110-01-05 HPA operates from 100MHz to 500MHz with output powers at 1dBc of 200W up to 470 MHz and 175W from 470MHz to 500MHz. It delivers a saturated power of 240W up to 470MHz. Its gain is 9dB.

It can be combined with driver modules to accept low level inputs for a full output power. The size is 175mm x 130mm x 23.5mm which makes this amplifier suitable for compact radio equipment and jammers.

POWER SYSTEM

Elmacom's wideband E10753-01-04 19in rack-mounted HPA operates from 100MHz to 500MHz in a single band. It delivers 1,000W at minimum 1dBc output power programmable in various step sizes.

The HPA supports the following modulation formats: AM, FM, Pulse and CW. Flatness is maintained within ±0.5dB over the entire frequency band and temperature range. The output spurious is at -55dBc. The frequency hopping is accomplished within 100µs.

Automatic Levelling Control (ALC) ensures a stable output power into 3:1 load VSWR. For VSWR above 3:1, a turn down protection is provided. Software-enabled 'bias on/off' circuits are employed to operate in noise-quieting (blanking) mode within a maximum of 25µs.

VSWR, over-temperature, input overdrive and over-current, and over and under-voltage protections are available. The HPA status is fully monitored by a 40-character, four-line LCD back-lighted display on the front panel which shows all alarms and key parameters' values. The system is either manually or remotely controlled via RS422 multi drop party-line, addressed interface and optionally via Ethernet TCP/IP-based interface.

Blücher GmbH
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/nbc/blucher
Blücher GmbH, a German company based in Düsseldorf, together with its US licensee Tex-Shield Inc., are internationally renowned in the NBC defense industry. The heart of our business is the continuous development of the SARATOGA™ technology, the world market leader for permeable NBC protective clothing.

COMPOSITE FILTER FABRIC

SARATOGA™ is a unique patented composite filter fabric based on highly activated and hard carbon spheres fixed onto textile carrier fabrics. With a carbon density of between 180g/m² to 220g/m², the maximum on the market, it provides a minimum of 24 hours protection and at least 45 days of wear under battlefield conditions, including several field washings.

Over 85% of the sphere's outer surface is freely accessible to harmful gases, resulting in an extremely rapid and firm adsorption.

NBC OVERGARMENTS, DUTY UNIFORMS AND UNDERGARMENTS

SARATOGA™ incorporates an entire family of products for military and civilian personal NBC protection:

Overgarments (worn over regular clothing) Duty uniforms (worn over underwear) Undergarments (worn instead of underwear in combination with regular clothing)

Garments are also available in flame retardant versions. NBC protective gloves, socks and hoods complement the range of SARATOGA™ garments.

We can also supply:

SARATOGA™ filter fabrics as roll goods Sets consisting of a SARATOGA™ garment, protective gloves and overboots in a protective carrier bag

We can also offer research and development support and manufacturing assistance.

Alongside military users, civilian organizations such as civil defense, police, fire fighters, EOD, coast guard and inspectors (OPCW and UNMOVIC) use our garments.

REFERENCES

Over 4.5 million suits have been sold to 25 nations and ten out of 19 NATO member states protect their forces with SARATOGA™. Since 1997, SARATOGA™ has been the standard for all US forces as it is the only technology to fulfill the stringent requirements of the JSLIST Program (Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology).

The United Arab Emirates recently awarded us with a contract to protect their forces with SARATOGA™ suits. Other countries with hot climates using SARATOGA™ include Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

SARATOGA™ NBC protective garments can be worn under all climatic conditions with minimal impact on combat effectiveness. The JSLIST suit was tested at ten locations worldwide including arctic, tropic and desert environments.

WEAR PHYSIOLOGY: SPHERICAL ABSORBERS

The better the wear properties of a protective suit, the longer it can be worn for preventive protection without fear of serious loss to operational strength.

The microclimate between skin and clothing has a great influence on the wearing properties. The pore structure of the SARATOGA™ spherical absorbers and their hydrophilic properties has the effect that sweat impulses are caught and continuously decomposed. This causes a low increase of humidity and a low atmospheric humidity in the area very close to skin. For that reason SARATOGA™ is pleasant to wear.

The high flexibility of SARATOGA™ filter materials leads to a "pump effect" which increases the microclimate such as a quick exchange of the air in between the inner and outer textile layers. The suits are also highly air permeable meaning that sweat and heat stress are reduced.

REUSABILITY

SARATOGA™ has a very high mechanical stability, guaranteeing reusability. Due to excellent mechanical properties, SARATOGA™ protective suits can be used for training purposes without problems; after being washed and packed, the protective suits are fully suitable to be re-used.

POSITIVE EFFECTS ON THE SKIN

Different tests (conducted by TNO Prins Maurits Laboratory and during the JSLIST program) have revealed that SARATOGA™ protective suits do not expose the wearer to any danger (such as skin irritations).

STORAGE TIME

Annual controls prove that more than enough chemical protection exists even after 15 years of storage under correct conditions.

COST

From an economical aspect, SARATOGA™ is the best NBC protective garment system money can buy. Garments can be worn up to 60 days and laundered over ten times under field conditions. Together with a storage time of at least 15 years and its logistical advantages, SARATOGA™ demonstrates by far the lowest life cycle costs.

American Apex
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/training/american-apex
American Apex specializes in live-fire gunnery training for main battle tanks. Leading the way with the Advanced Inbore Marksmanship Training Enhancement System for Tanks (AIMTEST), American Apex Corporation has been setting the standard in innovation and design for more than a decade.

AIMTEST TANK-GUN TRAINING SYSTEM

The caliber .50 AIMTEST is manufactured by American Apex to provide high quality gunnery training at a cost that any organization can afford. AIMTEST is now available for all NATO standard 105mm or 120mm main tank guns.

AIMTEST is designed to duplicate the ballistics of several types of standard tank ammunition in calibers 105mm and 120mm, through the substitution of easily available caliber .50 ammunition types. The trajectory of caliber .50 SLAP-T (Saboted Light Armor Penetrator-Tracer), M962 ammunition is an excellent match to 2,000m, sufficient to exercise the tank crew with the standard half-scale or full-scale targets. 1,500m capability can be achieved with the use of caliber .50 APIT, M20 ammunition.

ADVANTAGES OF AIMTEST GUNNERY TRAINING

AIMTEST enhances the training standards for the crew, as all functions performed during normal operational use of the tank must be performed using the system. The main gun electrical and manual firing circuit operates the firing mechanism of AIMTEST, and all main gun safeties are operational.

In addition, the range safety fan is reduced to 6,700m, and the noise of firing is reduced to small arms level because of the 'muffling' effect of the long, main gun tube. As a result, the crew is subjected to very low sound-pressure levels.

Both the range safety fan and noise levels are important in many countries, due to restrictions being placed upon military activities in populated areas. Very realistic practice can be achieved with vastly reduced costs.

AIMTEST has all the characteristics that are sought after in military acquisition today, and will bridge the gap between simulators and live firing with 105mm / 120mm practice ammunition.

Acquisition and deployment of AIMTEST will permit armed forces to maintain operational readiness in areas where standard ammunition cannot be fired, and to retain forces, through reduced training costs, that would otherwise be lost to funding attrition. In this age of cost-conscious armed forces, AIMTEST is the right tool at the right time.

AIMTEST COMPATIBILITY CHART

AIMTEST types:

BUSHMATE GUNNERY SKILL TRAINING DEVICE

The BUSHMATE is a training device that allows users of the Boeing 25mm chain gun (Bushmaster) to use sub-caliber weapons for gunnery skill training. It consists of a weapons mount that replaces the 25mm Bushmaster barrel, a wiring harness and ? currently ? two firing solenoids.

One solenoid is used for the M2HB .50 cal Browning machine gun, the other fires the M240 7.62mm machine gun. This allows the crew to train on full or half scale targets at combat ranges at a fraction of the cost of 25mm ammunition. The crew can therefore use their vehicle and full-up fire control, a primary consideration in realistic combat training.

A simple, rugged device, the BUSHMATE gunnery skill training device is inexpensive to purchase, operate and maintain. The complete cost of a Bushmate sub-caliber training device is quickly recovered by significant savings in expenditure on main gun training ammunition, and a reduction in main gun wear.

The BUSHMATE gunnery skill training device is compatible with the M242 (25mm) cannon, and all Bushmaster turret vehicles.

T-CORE C4IS FRAMEWORK

Having designed multiple command and control systems for different customers and purposes, we found that many functions were similar from system to system. Based on this, we developed a C4IS framework named T-Core, a generic core composed of software components offering all common C4I functions identified in army, navy and air force as well as civilian mission-critical systems.

T-Core enables efficient system implementation and makes it possible to deliver C4IS systems with customisable functionality on time and with low risk.

T-Core is an efficient framework for most C4IS systems; we can offer a complete turnkey system or T-Core can be offered B2B as a development platform for companies seeking an efficient way to include C4I as part of their competences.

T-CORE C4IS FRAMEWORK ADVANTAGES

T-Core offers:

Scalability from single PDA to field-networked computer clusters

Platform independence: T-Core runs on multiple operating systems

Modular C4IS framework allowing fast adaptation to new requirements

Deployment in army, navy and air force systems

Proven real-time performance under military communication conditions

Support for international link and protocol standards

INTERCONNECT SENSORS AND EFFECTORS

Timely and accessible information is vital for situational awareness, force tracking and identification. T-Core offers a service-oriented approach on how to interconnect sensors, effectors and communication assets, which means that you can access all assets connected to your network as if they were connected locally. T-Core is an independent framework allowing interfaces to almost any manufacture of sensor, effector or communication equipment.

Sensor and effector services can be utilised individually, combined and / or joint ‐ providing a perfect basis for network centric warfare operations. Based on T-Core, any system supplied by Terma can easily be adapted to individual customer needs in relation to sensor, weapon, Human Machine Interface (HMI) and communication platform interfaces.

Seamless integration of multiple communication systems is possible through the T-Core interface application, which supports multiple data links and protocols, such as Advanced Tactical Data Links (ATDL), Link 1, Link 11, Link 16, ADat-P3, and BFT (NFFI).

CUSTOMISABLE C4IS FRAMEWORK

Instead of developing an entire new system or capability from scratch for each customer, we use the same framework components for all army, navy and air force systems ‐ T-Core.

With T-Core you can re-enable all your existing and relevant assets into one networked system, including legacy equipment, which typically would be excluded by closed large-vendor systems.

T-Core is field-proven so focus and effort can be put on specific customer required capability changes and / or new capabilities. T-Core offers a noticeable reduction of time, cost and risk.

MOWAG GmbH in Cooperation with Saab Avitronics Exhibits at DSEi 2007
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/armoured/mowag/press18.html
PIRANHA IIIC protected against new threats In cooperation with Saab Avitronics, MOWAG, a General Dynamics European Land Systems Company, integrated the LEDS (Land Electronic Defence System) Active Protection System on a PIRANHA vehicle for the first time. This active protection system enhances the vehicle's survivability significantly. The system defends against threats encountered on the modern battlefield, such as Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) without impacting on the overall mobility of the armoured vehicle.

The core competences of MOWAG in the areas of mobility, survivability and system integration have been further underlined with the latest integration of an active protection system into the PIRANHA IIIC 8x8.

As well as conventional ballistic and mine attacks, light and medium armoured vehicles operating in today's theatres of war must also be adequately protected against various types of IEDs, Explosively Formed Projectiles (EFPs) and shaped charges. Furthermore, specific symetric warfare-based anti-armour threats such as RPGs and ATGMs (Anti Tank Guided Missiles) are becoming more prevalent, even during peace-keeping missions.

MOWAG's solution regarding the protection of its vehicles follows several different stages: firstly an assessment tool is used to generate a customized 'threat map' to identify the requisite protection technologies. Secondly the most suitable protection technologies and suppliers are selected as defined by the customer. Thirdly, the additional overall weight for the proposed protective suit is compared to the relevant threat protection needed.

MOWAG performed an in-depth study of 20 different APS (Active Protection Systems) available on the world market at that time. Based on this, MOWAG finally selected the Land Electronics Defence Systems (LEDS) of Saab Avitronics as the APS element in the protective suit.

LEDS - A CUSTOMIZED SOLUTION

The LEDS like the PIRANHA vehicle follow the same system design concept regarding survivability in so far that both concepts are modular, interchangeable, up-gradable and scalable to meet different customer's demands. LEDS combines soft-fill, hard-kill and active signature management to provide hemispherical and full spectrum active protection to land vehicles. It is designed to be an integral part of the vehicle.

The LEDS consists of a sensor suite, central active defence controller, high speed directed dispensing system and counter measure options ranging from fast deploying multi-spectral smoke, active signature management devices and hard-kill options to defeat attacking threats. The active signature management options also include the protection against petrol bombs and secondary fires resulting from IED attack. Sensor options include laser warning and an active threat acquisition and tracking system.

EAGLE AND DURO TO FOLLOW

MOWAG, in partnership with Saab Avitronics, has integrated the LEDS on an armoured amphibious PIRANHA IIIC 8x8 vehicle which will be displayed on General Dynamics European Land System's stand during DSEi 2007. Validation firing tests will be performed in late 2007 so that pre-series integration work of the LEDS can be launched as from early 2008 on different PIRANHA vehicle variants. Furthermore, integration studies for LEDS into the other MOWAG vehicle families such as EAGLE and DURO will be pursued in 2008.

Capewell Wins US$1.6M Precision Airdrop Award from the Australian Department of Defence
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/logistics/capewell/press9.html
Capewell announced today, they received a US$1.6M award from the Royal Australian Air Force for its Joint Precision Air Drop System, JPADS.

Australia is the second country outside the United States to acquire this advanced technology Mission Planning (JPADS-MP) system. Capewell is partnered with Planning Systems Incorporated (PSI), who designed and manufactures the system, while Capewell markets JPADS-MP to international customers using its extensive marketing network.

The USAF has been using the system in Afghanistan and Iraq since August 2006, dropping an estimated 500,000 pounds of cargo per month, delivering supplies right to soldiers in the field. This system is responsible for saving lives by accurately dropping cargo from high altitudes, eliminating supply convoys and allowing aircrew to fly above ground threats. An estimated 500+ convoys have been kept off the roads by using JPADS-MP.

The Joint Precision Air Drop System is used for high altitude precision airdrop ensuring safe re-supply of needed cargo to the combatant. It provides the means to accurately drop cargo from altitudes as high as 25,000 feet. This cutting edge mission planner uses four dimensional assimilation of high resolution weather forecast fields, combined with one kilometer topography plus real time environmental sampling applied to ballistic and guided load models to produce accurate Computed Air Release Point (CARP) coordinates.

It is currently the most sophisticated and accurate system available worldwide.

TATRA
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/vehicles/tatra
TATRA a.s. is a producer of heavy duty all-wheel-drive 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 off-road trucks featuring with exceptional performance in difficult terrain and climatic and environment conditions. A strong point of the TATRA make is its original design of the chassis. During most of the 100 year history of vehicle production, both commercial and military products of TATRA have won recognition even in the harshest climatic and terrain conditions.

UNIQUE TATRA CONCEPT OF THE CHASSIS

The TATRA chassis consists of a central "backbone" tube, extending along the whole length of the vehicle and covering all parts of the driveline, and of independent swing half-axles, coming out of the "backbone" tube and swinging up and down around the backbone tube center line. While each wheel copies the profile of the terrain, the rigid backbone tube actually eliminates any twist or bending of the chassis. In this way TATRA trucks can overcome various obstacles at higher speeds than vehicles of conventional design, offer exceptional mobility, as well as unusual comfort for the driver and load when operating off-road or cross-country.

TRUCK DESIGN

The principle features of TATRA suspension technology include:

RIGID CENTRAL "BACKBONE" TUBE

No torsion or bending of the chassis and superstructure, therefore: safe and trouble-free transport of sensitive loads, special bodies or superstructures; high ride comfort and faster drive off-road Long life of the chassis Driveline shafts and other components are covered and protected inside the "backbone" tube The chassis can operate "frameless", which makes it possible to fix certain bodies directly to the chassis crossmembers

INDEPENDENT SWING HALF-AXLES

Each wheel moves up and down independently, therefore: remarkably higher speed on rough roads; quick pass over obstacles; exceptional off-road and cross-country mobility and excellent absorption of shocks and vibrations caused by rugged road surface Swing half-axles are extremely resistant against impacts and shocks

"MODULAR" DESIGN

High degree of commonality for commercial and military models AWD 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 and 10x10 versions in production Different wheelbase alternatives available for each version Suitable as cargo or troop carriers, and particularly as chassis for different kinds of special superstructures Lockable side- and inter-axle differentials CTIS Various PTO options

TATRA, a.s., produce three families of military trucks:

T815 -Family of military trucks and chassis, not meeting some of the legislation requirements. Available in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 configurations with 8- or 12-cylinder air-cooled TATRA engines (170, 235 and 265 kW). Dedicated for export to markets with no or low legislation standards. ARMAX - Family of military trucks or chassis based on current production commercial models, meeting all European emission, noise, and axle load standards. Available in 4x4 and 6x6 configurations with 8-cylinder TC/AC air-cooled TATRA engines (230, 255 or 300 kW) and 10-speed manual TATRA transmission FORCE - Family of military (or commercial) vehicle or chassis models for special purposes, using several different makes of water cooled engines over 300 kW, special or automatic transmissions, as well as other high-performance design features enhancing the outstanding off-road mobility of the TATRA-concept chassis.

For more detailed descriptions of these vehicles, please click on the tables to the right.

TRIPLE T -THE UNIQUE TATRA TANK TRANSPORTER

The TATRA Tank Transporter was designed to move the heaviest tanks and armoured vehicles of GVW’s up to 74 metric tons over the most difficult terrains, particularly in desert sands at ambient temperatures of up to 55 ° C, as well as on roads and in the mountains.

Its 8x8 chassis adopts the unique TATRA design of suspension, including the latest development of the TATRA suspension system - TATRA combination suspension (KING FRAME®) - at the rear axles. This combination of leaf springs and airbags located above the "backbone" tube make it possible to keep the height of the fifth wheel at constant height, independent of the load.

The TTT features a powerful V12 engine from MTU (Germany) developing 833 PS and comes with a fully automatic electronically controlled 10-speed transmission from Twin Disc (USA). The loaded truck/trailer combination can weigh as much as 120 metric tons.

Fy-Composites
http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/personal/fy-composites
FY-Composites is a high-technology company specialised in development, design and manufacturing of composite-based products for ballistic protection. Lightweight armouring solutions are designed and manufactured to provide personnel, vehicles, ships, special equipment, buildings and other structures with maximum protection.

Advanced analysis methods and design tools, combined with thorough understanding of various composite materials, are essential in developing cost-effective and technically advanced composite products. Most successful solutions are developed and designed in close co-operation with our customers for their demanding requirements.

RAPID ARMOR SHELTER SYSTEM

The Rapid Armor Shelter System (RASS), which has an international patent pending, is a new ballistic-protection system. A military-certified lightweight fortification wall system, it is ideal for fast-moving troops: fortification walls can be built and dismantled in a few minutes, allowing troops to be protected even during short operations.

Panels protect men or property from fragments; the protection level is V50 &t; 600m/s (1.1g FSP and STANAG 2920). The multi-panel system can be used in protection against rifle AP-bullets.

LIGHTWEIGHT BALLISTIC PROTECTION

The RASS is simple and easy to use. Two basic shapes, a square (approximately 18kg) and a triangle (approximately 8kg), are equipped with innovative quick coupling devices and supporting legs to enable the construction of a large number of various fortification combinations in a very short time.

All components are capable of withstanding UV radiation, fuel and oil spatters, and a wide range of temperatures. The panels do not absorb moisture.

MILITARY AND CIVIL BALLISTIC PROTECTION

This multipurpose protection system is easy to adapt for various military, police and peacekeeping applications, e.g. military-operation protection, mine-clearing activities, military or police sieges, UN personnel and property protection, and humanitarian-organisation protection. The RASS can also be used for civilian protection, e.g. protection of window and door openings.

VEHICLE-PROTECTIVE BALLISTIC PANELS

When attached to the sides of a vehicle during transportation, panels protect persons and property inside the vehicle.

LIGHTWEIGHT ARMORED STRUCTURE SOLUTION

In most common vehicle applications, ballistic protection is provided by specially designed steel structures. To be effective, however, these have to be very thick, something that also makes them very heavy. Steel also needs an additional protective layer, or spall liner, to stop the secondary fragments released by the impact of a projectile on a hard steel surface, further increasing the total weight.

FY-Composites recently launched the new Lightweight Armored Structure Solution (LASS) technology, which sidesteps these problems by using modern composite technology. Structural stiffness and strength in a LASS design is provided by a composite sandwich structure that is both light and strong enough to deal with high dimensioning and operational loads.

Ballistic protection is integrated into a structure using protective layers, which break and stop projectiles. This ballistic protection also acts as part of the load-bearing structure.

LASS material usage is highly optimised and weight kept to a minimum, resulting in very light structures with a high level of protection.

CUSTOMISED BALLISTIC PROTECTION

The patent-pending LASS system can be closely tailored to suit customer requirements, in terms of both structure and ballistic protection. NATO Stanag 4569 annex A level three protection, for example, can be achieved with an all-up weight of 75kg/m² (well under half of the 200kg/m² needed by a steel structure). Level two protection requires half of the 100kg/m² required by steel.

This is a particular benefit with door and hatches, which can be much easier to open and close because of their lower weight, and can also be designed in a wider variety of shapes and other configurations.

The same design flexibility applies to other parts. Simpler hinges, latches, and other add-ons can be prefabricated into the structure, allowing normal bolted or screwed fittings to be used.

NBC / CRBRN VEHICLE PROTECTION

The high stiffness of LASS products also makes them very suitable for pressurised vehicles for NBC / CBRN protection.

COMPOSITE COMBAT HELMETS

FY-Composites is an established manufacturer of composite combat and special helmets: our lightweight fragment helmets and bullet-resistant helmets have visors and other accessories.

BALLISTIC SHIELDS AND LIGHTWEIGHT PROTECTION KITS

We also supply ballistics shields for mine clearing and police special forces, as well as lightweight ballistic protection kits for vehicles, containers and ships.
