Northrop Grumman has completed the installation, integration and initial flight testing of the first developmental test units (DTU) of the new radar antenna developed for the B-2 stealth bomber's radar modernization program (RMP). The availability of the new antenna -- an active electronically scanned array designed and built by Raytheon -- will allow the Northrop Grumman-led B-2 industry team to complete the comprehensive RMP flight test program interrupted last year by integration issues with the antenna.

London UK (SPX) Nov 26, 2007 - The RAF's newest and most versatile multi-role fighter, Eurofighter Typhoon has dropped its first in-service RAF bomb - and the weapon scored a direct hit on the target at sea off the Welsh coast. The weapon, a 1000lb Paveway 2 laser guided bomb (LGB) was dropped by a Typhoon of No. 11 Squadron based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

London, UK (SPX) Nov 21, 2007 - The Army's current AS90 guns are to get a sophisticated new weapon that can more accurately seek out and destroy hostile armoured vehicles at long range (up to 22.5 km), day and night, in all weathers and in difficult terrain, such as forests and urban areas. This new smart weapon, the Ballistic Sensor Fused Munition (BSFM), consists of a shell that can be fired from the AS90 artillery gun. Munitions drop by parachute, using sensors to seek out enemy targets as they drift down.

Snipers in the Army, Royal Marines and RAF Regiment are to get a new rifle that will give them lethal precision at even greater distances under a pound4M contract announced today. The British firm Accuracy International Ltd will supply 580 rifles with day telescopic sights for snipers across the services, which will fire a larger calibre bullet than the existing weapon. The new rifle is being supplied as part of a broader Sniper System Improvement (SSI) programme to give UK snipers more power, precision and stealth than ever before.

The first four M113 Armoured Personnel Carriers (M113AS4) built by Tenix Aerospace and Defence have been accepted into service with the Australian Army's 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (Mechanised Infantry), during a ceremony in Darwin. These are the first of 350 vehicles procured under Project LAND 106 which is aimed at upgrading the Army's in-service M113A1 vehicles. The upgrade provides significant enhancements in protection, firepower and mobility while also providing improved supportability.

Dubai, UAE (SPX) Nov 14, 2007 - The Typhoon Combined Test Team (CTT), comprising staff from BAE Systems and the RAF, has successfully completed the first mission to drop a laser guided bomb, scoring a direct hit at the Aberporth range in the UK. The trials aircraft, BT005, flown by Flt Lt Dave Bowlzer from 17 Squadron and BAE Systems test pilot Paul Stone, completed the first fully laser guided weapon release using the Litening III laser designator pod (LDP).
