The Internet, Politics and Power of the People
http://www.technewsworld.com/rsstory/61847.html
Vox populi vox dei -- the voice of the people is the voice of God -- was supposed to represent democracy in action. Until now, however, the true state of democracy was perhaps best expressed by the saying "Freedom of the press belongs to those who own one." The Internet and associated technologies are changing that.

Don't Hold Your Breath for iTunes to Kill Blu-ray
http://www.technewsworld.com/rsstory/61837.html
In an effort to create artificial tension for their readership or to cater to the RDFs of Apple and Microsoft, some are arguing that Blu-ray will now have to fight an uphill battle against Internet downloads. That's all pure baloney. First, it's going to be many years before Internet downloads can compete with Blu-ray discs in terms of bit rate and video quality.

New Security Suite Blocks Data Diversion
http://www.technewsworld.com/rsstory/61843.html
Perhaps like no other industry before it, the IT industry has come to thrive on continuous innovation coupled with rapid and widespread product introduction. In the competitive -- at times mad -- rush to be first or early to market key things are sometimes overlooked. When it comes to security, it is impossible to identify every vulnerability, much less foretell just how hackers will try to exploit them.

Lenovo X300 vs. MacBook Air: More Features, Less Sex Appeal
http://www.technewsworld.com/rsstory/61816.html
I am writing these words on a new laptop computer that packs a full-size screen and keyboard into a body that's quite thin and light. It has a solid-state drive with no moving parts instead of a hard disk. However, this isn't the much-touted Apple MacBook Air, introduced last month with all those qualities. Instead, it's a new ThinkPad from Lenovo -- the X300.

After Apple announced the upgrade and lower price for its Apple TV, casually dubbed "Take 2" by CEO Steve Jobs in his Macworld keynote address in January, I knew I'd finally shell out the cash to buy one. Simply put, the first-generation Apple TV didn't have enough bang for the buck to bother with. However, Apple TV Take 2, with its buy-and-rent-straight-from-the-couch simplicity, finally had a killer application.

Hoax Hunters Turn Their Eyes to Digital Photo Technology

Sometimes, a photo is simply too good to be true. Tiny details in an image, for instance, may be too similar to have occurred naturally, suggesting a cut-and-paste maneuver. Or the color patterns may be too "normal" -- beyond the limitations of sensors on digital cameras. A growing number of researchers and companies are looking for such signs of tampering in hopes of restoring credibility to photographs.

The Mac Gaming Renaissance, Part 1
http://www.technewsworld.com/rsstory/61580.html
For a lot of hardcore gamers, the phrase "gaming on a Mac" is an oxymoron. As recently as a year ago, if you took a look around a typical game shop, and you may have walked out thinking that despite the many whiz-bang features built into the Mac and its OS X operating systems, not to mention the beauty of Apple monitors, true gaming can only happen on a PC.

Firefox: A Way Around Spyware

I have been using Firefox for two years. In 2006, I used PC Tools' Spyware Doctor antispyware, and in 2007 I used Webroot's Spysweeper. Neither ever found anything. I use my computer for a lot of research and am a very careful computer user, but I'm concerned that Firefox does not seem to be "covered" by those programs.
